“A Wedding Across from the Square” dVerse Open Link #72

Evening’s chilly finger-spell
tugs my coat as we round
the corner to the chapel.

A brocaded priest chants
blessings as holy wafers
hang equilibrium — alliance
in formation.

A white ceramic
bell curves in my hand,
its texture lowering
drawbridges of love and life.
The relationship commences.

Ave Maria creates elevation,
blue petals fall from my dress,
settling at my feet. My mouth
moves, led by prayer.

A golden crystal lasso
drapes the young couple’s
shoulders, joining them
as trees secure an orchard.
Bells ring from ceremonial
branches.

  2. A white ceramic
    bell curves in my hand,
    its texture raising
drawbridges of love and life,…nice…very cool…love how you have us in the moment too…ave maria is def uplifting to hear….thanks for letting us peek in…smiles.

  3. Awww…. this sounds like such a romantic, beautiful wedding… I love the blue petals falling from your dress… the bell…all so, so dreamy…

  4. It’s all so beautiful and vivid, Pamela… I especially like:

    Ave Maria creates elevation,
blue petals fall from my dress,
settling at my feet. My mouth
    moves, led by prayer.

  6. Love the vivid images. Nice write.

  7. you have painted quite a breathtaking and beautiful picture. colors, sounds, textures, smells cascade so perfectly.

  8. Loved the way you used the wordle words to describe the wedding. Enjoyed this stanza…

    A white ceramic
    bell curves in my hand,
    its texture raising
    drawbridges of love and life,
    as relationships commence

    which signfies so very much….

    • Thanks, Mary, but this is not a wordle poem. Hmmm….

      • Sorry, you are right…I guess after I read it I looked at the ‘wordle poem’ title directly below….and, since you do write wordle poems as well, somehow my mind made the incorrect leap. All that aside, I liked the way you described the wedding, and the particular stanza I mentioned especially! Sorry, again.

  9. I love the taste you gave us of a wedding in Mexico…a bit of spirituality, a lot of the culture and the reverence of two lived lassoed into one. Enjoyed.

  10. Sounds beautiful! Another’s custom can be taken into one’s heart.

  11. Plainly a spiritual occasion, that physical joining, where the world of spirits lives, walks and breathes in and among the communicants. I especially love the image of blue petals falling from your dress, as if it’s raining, very gently, miraculous blue flowers. The lasso is a lovely image as well.

  12. Hi Pamela
now how weird is this? 15 mins ago i just finshed watching my 1st Ken Russell movie, which happened to be The Devils, which shares some imagery (although not tone((i dont think:)) with your poem – which i like V.much indeed! cue twilght zone music! 😀

  13. A very pretty poem – the cherry orchard such an interesting choice! Can’t help but think of Chekhov. That one didn’t seem to fare so well! k.

  14. Checkhov and more! Well done! k.

  15. nice..finally i made it to the wedding…was curious since i read about it in the comments yesterday…very cool…and thanks for taking us with you

  16. Hmmm, a wedding dream? Weddings have got to be one of my most unfavorite ceremonies — well, the ones I have been to. All are generic: photos, money, dresses, pretense, tension …. I skip weddings nowadays. I am sure there are great wedding, perhaps my cynicism blinds me. This one sounded fun!

    • I understand your cynicism, Sabio. However, here in Mexico there is a different aura to weddings in general. This one was particularly different in that, it was at night in a lovely ornate chapel, not a church, and I have never seen a lasso used at a ceremony, but it really was very beautiful. Also, I have never been to wedding where they have sung Ave Maria.

  17. I never tire of weddings, though I don’t fancy myself overly romantic. This one sounds lovely. Beautifully done 🙂

  18. Your poetry is vivid and beautifully crafted.

    🙂
